- Waterscape -
We are charmed by those things which are at once both tangible and intangible.
In Japan, we believe we can sense the spirit within objects.
We can project our minds upon nature.
We can create the feeling of movement on water with flickering light.
Without using water, we can express a stream of water.
The double-skin wall of spangles and Japanese paper trembles in the wind and creates ripples.
Cutting out pieces of landscape and transplanting them indoors through the use of technology:
this is in keeping with the contemporary interpretation of a "borrowed" scene (shakkei).
